We are on a short tour to Washington DC and thought that this place might look like the same Chinese buffet in Philadelphia (such as Ruby buffet). However, they are worse than any average restaurant in Philadelphia or might be in Washington DC also. For the food and their services, I would say they are over price ($28 for 2 people????)Firstly, they make you pay before you see their dishes, so that you don't have any other choice but to eat their food.Secondly, there are not many dishes for you to select (as I counted there were about 10-12 dishes) which is below average. Finally, the food are over seasoned, too much salt so that you cannot really enjoy the food.So I DO NOT recommend anyone to come here, for the price you not deserve it. You should never ever give it a try because it would just waste your time and you will regress it!!!!!!

No one goes into City Buffet with illusions of getting authentic this or organic that. No, sometimes it's okay for your food to just be food, folks. I'm a fan because it has a wide range of food, perfect for the lunch crowd, in an area of town known for overpriced meals. For a flat rate of ~$9, you get an all you get eat Chinese food buffet paired with unlimited fountain drinks. (Not bad for downtown DC.) Moreover, there's plenty of seating and varied seating options, so rolling solo or with your whole department is never an issue. Finally, what makes this really sing is that the food trays rotate out pretty often: you're not going to have to endure food that's been sitting under a heat lamp all day. Just the contrary, in fact, the kitchen is in full swing.Simple nonsense meals like this is what makes the world go 'round.

I was hungover and craving greasy Chinese food, but I needed a drink afterwards. Its the only time I've walked out of a restaurant feeling cheap, dirty, and taken advantage of!You kind of know walking in you're not going for the quality, but rude service, mystery meat in foods that look veggie friendly, enough salt to prohibit bending your fingers the next day, and did I mention the rude service? I suppose thats why you pay up front to sit and eat?The good thing is that it cured my craving for salty and greasy Chinese food for a while. I'd love an egg roll and soup right now, but I cannot get the image of the layer of... I dont even know, grease maybe, on top of the soup. I think I'll walk the extra two blocks to DC Thai for their wonton soup!

Awful! The food (what was on the bar) was awful...cold and hard. Our glasses were empty forever before she finally decided to refill (we were ready to leave by then)...she couldn't get off the phone long enough to refill our glasses. We kept waiting on them to refill the bins and bring out fresh food, but it did not happen. The worst 35. bucks we've ever spent. Skip this place for sure!

You can't beat lunch for $9.50 (including soda) in this area. Granted, the buffet isn't THAT great, but it will certainly suffice. They have a decent variety of entrees, rice/noodles, vegetables, and soups; there is even a salad and dessert section with ice cream. A regular menu is available too and they also do carryout for the buffet as a pay by the pound; although I'm sure its cheaper just to eat in - that General's chicken can get heavy! There was a good crowd there during our recent lunch visit and I'm sure we'll be back at sometime soon.

Don't be fooled that this restaurant has a nice ad in the DC-Metro area map. The restaurant's food is far from tasty. From the dried up cheese-wontons to the chewey lo-mein, it just was not good. Also, the bathroom was directly next to the ...?

I've been to lots of buffets in Los Angeles and Las Vegas so I know a good buffet. This place sucks worse than the gum on the sidewalk. The food had no taste and when they use batter...they really use a lot of batter. ...?

The tofu tasted so bad, I almost threw up after eating it. I don't know how it is possible to mess up Chinese, but everything from the lo mein to the fried rice have zero or bad flavor. The tofu tipped the scale though. Just too gross, and I am a person that LOVES tofu, especially when prepared by Asian restaurants. The upside is that this place is super cheap, you can have a large dinner/lunch for 4 or 5 bucks. That is, if you can bear eating the food and then keeping it down. I truly don't understand how this place is in business. Yeah, I think I am going to vomit now.?

I lived blocks away from this place for almost a year and ate it at LEAST once a week, and I never once became sick from it. Yeah, its typical Chinese food, people, so don't walk in expecting a 5-star filet mignon and you won't be disappointed. I have had the buffet, once -- and let's be honest here -- first, IMO, all buffets are kinda gross. Second, do you *expect* a cheap, all-day Chinese food buffet in a big city to be delicious? The food didn't taste that fresh but most of it was still pretty good, and there is a lot to choose from (And the price for all-you-can-eat is a good deal if you're hungry, too). Staff is decently friendly. In DC, its actually hard to find a Chinese place that "sticks with what it knows" instead of trying to please everyone by adding subs and fries to their menu. Last, but not least, its also pretty CLEAN, so, although it is average Chinese food, these things make it an above-average place. Enjoy it for what it IS, and don' ...? More ?

I like the food here. Above average quality Chinese carryout in a clean restaurant with friendly staff. I have not tried the buffet. I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here, but if you are in the area and want something quick and tasty for cheap this is good food.?

I simply love this place! Great location, good food, and awesome price. I can't imagine to have so much at such a price. Maybe it's not the best Chinese gourmet, but I enjoy it after eating so many burgers.?
